HACEY, in collaboration with WEMA Bank Plc, has hosted the 13th edition of The Girl Summit, focusing on the crucial role of girls’ leadership in advancing digital inclusion across Nigeria. The event took place recently at the WEMA Bank Academy in Ilupeju, Lagos.
With the theme “Shaping Tomorrow: Girls’ Leadership and Digital Power,” the summit brought together leaders in gender equality, technology, and youth empowerment to discuss how digital literacy and leadership development can drive social and economic progress for young women.
Executive Director of HACEY, Rhoda Robinson, emphasised the importance of investing in the next generation of female leaders.
“The future is undeniably digital, and we must ensure girls are not just participants but pioneers. By equipping these young women with critical digital skills and leadership capacity, we are empowering them to build a more equitable and prosperous Nigeria and Africa,” she said.
Ayodele Olojede, Divisional Head of Retail and SME at WEMA Bank Plc, reaffirmed the bank’s long-term commitment to women’s empowerment.
“WEMA Bank is proud to partner with HACEY on this vital initiative. We see technology as the ultimate equaliser, and through platforms like this, we are fostering a generation of female entrepreneurs and leaders who will leverage digital power to redefine success,” he said.
The summit featured keynote addresses, panel sessions, and fireside chats exploring how technology is transforming opportunities for girls in education, entrepreneurship, and leadership.
The MD/CEO of TVC Communications, Victoria Ajayi, delivered the keynote address, joined by other notable speakers, including Mistura Adedoyin Rufai (Education Specialist, World Bank), Fabia Ogunmekan (Principal Consultant, Adaba Initiatives), Imisioluwa Owonikoko (Executive Director, ProjectEnable Africa), and Blessing Bamidele (Head of Programs, Tech4Dev).
A major highlight of the event was the announcement of winners of The Girl Summit 2025 Creative Competition.
- Nusaybah Abdulhakeem from Educational District III emerged as the overall winner, receiving ₦300,000 and a laptop.
- Khadeejat Alhassan placed second with ₦200,000, while Oreoluwa Ogunsola came third, taking home ₦100,000.
Other finalists Ogisi Mary, Ehighalua Vanessa, Raheema Panti, Sesede Agosu, Precious Amao, Ogbu Daniella, and Suliat Adedeji were also honoured for their creativity and impact.
The 13th Girl Summit reaffirmed HACEY and WEMA Bank’s shared mission to equip young women with digital and leadership skills, empowering them to harness technology to build a more inclusive and innovative future for Nigeria and Africa at large.
