T2 Mobile Records Third Straight Month of Internet Subscriber Growth — NCC Data

T2 Mobile, formerly known as 9mobile, has recorded a third consecutive month of internet subscriber growth, marking its first full quarter of sustained recovery, according to the latest data from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The telecom operator added 9,202 internet users in December 2025, bringing its total internet subscriber base to 780,237. The increase, though modest, signals a rebound for Nigeria’s fourth-largest mobile network operator in a market largely dominated by MTN Nigeria and Airtel.

The three-month growth streak follows years of steady subscriber decline and a sharp drop after the company’s rebrand in 2025. Industry analysts say the recent recovery suggests that T2 Mobile’s network upgrades, national roaming agreement with MTN, and new brand strategy may be beginning to gain traction among consumers.

T2 Mobile rebranded in August 2025 and shortly after secured a national roaming partnership with MTN Nigeria. The agreement allows T2 customers to access MTN’s wider 2G, 3G, and 4G network coverage in areas where T2’s infrastructure is limited, improving service quality without requiring SIM swaps or number changes.

However, the rebrand initially came with setbacks. In August 2025, the operator’s internet subscriber base fell to 744,044, dropping below one million for the first time. The recovery began in October, when T2 added 10,918 users, raising the total to 754,962. Growth continued in November with 16,073 new users, bringing the base to 771,035, before rising again in December.

The NCC’s Q4 2025 Industry Performance Report describes T2 Mobile as a small but technically strong operator. The company ranked first in rural download speeds at about 24.9 Mbps and second nationally in overall user experience, improvements linked to new spectrum deployment, roaming support, and recent network investments.

Despite these gains, T2 Mobile remains a minor player in the Nigerian telecoms market, with about 1.8 per cent market share and roughly 3.22 million total subscribers. It also recorded the highest net port-out losses in 2025, with around 28,000 customers leaving the network and fewer than 100 users porting in.

Still, the consistent monthly growth in internet subscribers suggests the operator may be entering a stabilisation phase, as it seeks to rebuild its customer base and strengthen its position in Nigeria’s increasingly consolidated telecom landscape.
